Facts about balding

Balding is a natural process of hair loss for some men and women as they age. Hair to the sides and the back of the head basically are not that responsive to a hormone called DHT. DHT increases as we age and causes loss of hair follicles in areas of balding on the scalp.

There are several tactics to treating baldness. There are medications that can decrease the production of DHT but can have many side effects including sexual dysfunction. Surgery is another choice. Hair transplant surgery involves moving hair from the side and back of the head (DHT resistant hair) and moving it into areas of balding (areas prone to DHT hair loss). The transplant is usually considered permanent but some factors can cause loss of that hair too. Hair transplant techniques yield often more than a 90 percent success rate per follicle graft.
